Essentially Yours Fall/Winter 2007
Inner Outer Beauty Relax your body, Feed your spirit, Ease your mind Over the years, have you ever sat and thought how everything is some way connected and effects your life? Not just the connection of you and your family or friends, but things as simple as the four seasons. How winter, spring, summer and fall connects with your personal lives. In the winter we tend to relax more than other seasons. Our bodies go into hibernation and get covered and protected with the proper clothing. Winter is a good time of the year to be still and reflect on the past, listen to our inner voice and set new goals for growth. In the Spring, we begin to put our goals in motion by planting seeds for what we want to come and blossom. In the Summer, we strongly feed our spirits with sunny positive thoughts and quench our thirst by surrounding ourselves with positive motivational people, getting involved with uplifting activities, stretching our arms and welcoming opportunities that will help us grow. When Fall arrives, we celebrate the harvest we prepared for all year. As we reap rewards, remember to encourage and share them with others, tell how you overcome the many obstacles with a smile throughout the year. Continue to plan and work towards higher goals to obtain not once a year but throughout the year. Congratulations on another year to celebrate our personal growth and opportunities maximized! Live and love life to the fullest, Zoe Get and Stay Image Fit Meditation for A Happy New You (by Vic Fuhrman & Barbara Biziou) Take a few deep breaths and allow your body to take in all the air that it needs. Imagine your entire body softening. Begin by thanking for all the gifts in your life right now. Appreciating where we have been is a magical key to moving forward. Every situation and relationship from your past has taught you something useful, and has made you who you are today. Now notice those things that have outlived their usefulness. What keeps you stuck? What stops you from living your deepest dreams? Recognize the obstacles to achieving the changes that you choose for your life. Begin to make mental notes of all of those things that you are ready to release. Where are you still holding resentment toward another and/or towards yourself? Let all your fears, worries, doubts, disappointments, and anger surface in your mind... envision them as a muddy stream, which flows out of you as you breathe. See yourself releasing old hurts, sadness, imbalance, and injustice in your life from the past and present. Feel them dissolving, pouring out of your body. Just let them go. Release all the "should haves," "could haves," "if only." There are many layers to let go of, so for now, let go of those things that you are able to. Just let them go. Now see what items, relationships or situations you have outgrown or that need to shift in some way. Take the time to express gratitude for the lessons learned, and then visualize them gently leaving or changing to promote your new reality. As you free yourself from the past, you open up space for fresh, honest relationships and exciting new opportunities to come into your life. As the old energy flows out, experience a new lightness, feel a new power and vitality entering into your mind and body opening up space for compassion, for forgiveness, for health, for prosperity and success. Invite in those people who are able to respect and honor your growth and change. Dwell in this new space for a short time, opening your heart and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to grow and move forward. Honor and acknowledge yourself for the courage to clear house and let go. Now imagine that you can breathe in the qualities that you need for this new part of your life. Breathe in courage to be true to yourself. Just breathe it in. Breathe in patience, discipline, spontaneity, or anything that you feel would assist you in this new beginning. See yourself as strong and positive. In your minds eye, picture what you would like to receive in your life and imagine yourself easily receiving these gifts. Feel yourself radiating with positive energy as you attract new people, ideas and situations. See yourself joyful and content with this new reality. Slowly begin to deepen your breaths. Gently move your fingers and toes. Gently begin to turn your head from side to side. Keeping your eyes closed, take three final deep breaths. When you are ready, you may open yours eyes. Religion represents a belief; rules to follow that will help us live a happy, more meaningful life and perhaps offer an explanation of what happens after life. Spirituality has more to do with the way we interact in the world and how we see ourselves fitting in the bigger picture of life and our purpose. A moment, an interaction, a poem or movie, all have the power to touch our spirits in a way that somehow makes us feel richer. But of all the life experiences that have the ability to enrich our health, connection in healthy social relationships seem to make the most influence. Some studies show the emotional nurturing offered by friends, relatives and mate help us improve our psychological and physical health. The challenge for most people is not going out and finding friends, but rather to make time in their full, sometime hectic, schedules and develop time to enjoy their existing relationships or pursuing the right mate. And when pursuing the right mate, when you think about it, the unconditional nurturing relationship you have with pets is the same health benefits as a loving spouse when you think about it. By providing unconditional love, affection and acceptance-traits to yourself first, it may be as difficult to make time and find it in others. Investment Bar Before seeking a mate prepare for your next date Going out into the world of dating can be exciting for some or redundant for others. When seeking for the one for you, always stay true to you when selecting the outfit for the first, second and additional dates. Yes its good to make a ‘First impressions’, however the impressions need to represent who you truly are inside out. First impressions are great, but making the right and lasting impression is what really counts when dating. Although it is says not to judge a book by it’s cover, we do. So that means before you are thinking about what to say and how to say it, your look should say it ALL. You see, this will determine the initial response that sets the tone for the date and how you may be treated. Gentlemen’s Corner Don’t strangle your image with the wrong tie Men, when shopping for ties, take time in selecting your ties for they tend to describe your personality. It’s not just about picking out ties that pick up the colors of your shirt and/or suit. It about selecting the right colors, designs, sizes and fabrics that express who you are and complement your attire. Yes, every man should have a black, gray, navy and burgundy tie for these are the basic colors and can be worn with many dress shirts to create a ‘classic look’. But what if you don’t want to look like the average guy? Ties are pretty much broken into three categories: solid, stripe and contemporary--being print and abstract design. If you want to draw attention, stand out and be remembered, pick a tie that is conversational. However, when doing so, please remember not to have your shirt print in competition with your tie, for the tie should complement the shirt. If wearing a solid color or subtle print shirt, than this is the opportunity to wear a more dramatic or a tie that makes a statement. Essential Tie tips: Ties come in silk, wool, polyester and other material that are combined. When deciding on fabrics, it is good to feel and try on the tie to make sure it is good quality. Check and see how the tie falls, that it does not have loose thread or break in pattern. If looking for ties made of silk, make sure it does not feels rough, yes rough, for this means the silk is INFERIOR QUALITY! If you still are unsure which tie to purchase ask an image expert for some advice so you will make the right purchase that express who you are to office mates or a date. She not only has the fabulous fit body that turns head but it turns out that your co-worker may also be earning more than you and your colleagues. Your look can have a real impact on from investors, loan officers, office-mates to potential dates. Studies have shown attractive ‘extraordinary’ people earn about 5 percent more in hourly pay than their ordinary looking colleagues, and 9 percent more per hour than the person with plain Jane look. So this means if an ordinary looking person earned $60,000, their image savvy co-workers would make $63,000 while their least attractive colleagues brought home just $57,300. One of Essential Aesthetics clients’ contacted us to assist one of their staff members with improving their professional image and the company would pay for it as long as the staff would complete our image program. They stated the worker who was really good at their job would be considered to move up (within the company), but couldn't because the look so professionally incorrect for the position they could not do so. The staff member never came in, remains in the same position and does not know how not doing put a stop to moving up in the company. Should experience be judged over looks? The percentage remains uncertain, but is a fact that when you look good you feel good and it increases their productivity. Many experts give warning to assigning too much value to beauty in the workplace, debating that even if people looks not their resume get them in the door, they may not get you much farther. There are many who firmly believe and studies have proven that looks are the first thing one notices, however should it out weigh competencies, interpersonal skills and other factors? It may not be fair, but it’s legal Unlike religion, national origin or disability, discrimination based on looks is legal in most jurisdictions, said James McDonald, Jr., managing partner of the Irvine office of employment law firm Fisher & Phillips LLP. Washington, D.C. and Santa Cruz, Calif. are the only two places the municipalities with laws explicitly protect workers against discrimination based on physical characteristics or personal appearance, he said. Still, that hasn't stopped workers from launching unsuccessful lawsuits. Well, whether it’s legal or not just make sure your look is complete and ready to compete in your industry inside out, head to toe! Health Notes When suffering from hair loss, whether it’s from chemotherapy or other medical conditions, head coverings are a necessity during these cooler months. We tend to lose a lot of heat from our head, so be sure to wear hats made from soft, breathable fabric that will be sensitive against the skin and insulated enough to keep warm. When wearing heavier texture hats such as wool or wool blend, make sure you wear a soft scarf or lining underneath the hat to avoid irritation. If you know someone suffering hair loss from a medical condition and want to learn more about alternative head coverings and comfortable seasonal wardrobe, have them schedule a complementary consultation with EA image advisor, Zoe Clinton, a certified Look Good Feel Better volunteers with American Cancer Society.
