Essentially Yours Spring/Summer 2007
There are many products on the market. To know if there is really a difference in products…read labels. Even if don’t know what the terms means (which most people don’t – only the chemist) you will recognize such ingredients as water, mineral oil, petrolatum, beeswax, vegetable oil, lanoline, talc, collagen, fragrance, coloring agents, and food derivatives. The first five to seven ingredients are what the majority of the product consist of. The first ingredients have about 70% and the last is probably 0.5% of the product content. And then theirs the terms that are always heard, sound good but meaningless: Natural ingredients, medically tested, scientifically formulated…none reflects RESULTS! Are you aware of all those commercials and advertisement for products for mature skin. The reason why there are more than ever is because they are targeting the Baby Boomers! They state this products help with wrinkles, lines, sagging, etc. Mature skin is not skin with wrinkles. It has nothing to do with wrinkles; however it has to do with the surface of the skin appearance changes due to the GENECTICALLY controlled slowdown rate of cell turnover, which can make skin thinner, drier and less elastic. You can best believe, not everyone will look worse as they age. Some become better looking in their aging process; however it depends on how they cared for self in past decades. Just because someone is chronologically 70 plus years, biologically you can be closer to fifty! As the season change and the leaves and flowers begin to blossom, it is time for you do the same. Your skin may go through changes; however it’s most important to clear out the inside for radiance. Free yourself of the pressures you allowed society to put on you from childhood to adult years. Let go of the arrogance, negligence, wrong views of self, not believing, not understanding or shallow understanding. Let go of harboring doubts, slandering, despising, hating, envying, bearing grudging, scowling with knitted brows and replace with positive attributes beginning with LOVE. Begin to have true Love for yourself first and everything else will follow. EA team help you age gracefully and avoid adding years to your appearance inner and outwardly. Live and love life to the fullest, Zoe Teen Segment—Why Acne, Why? Acne is not a sign of a dirty face and there is no proven facts that chocolate, pizza, French fries cause acne. The sun will not clear up acne, but too much will make acne worse. Oily skin does not cause blemishes and people with dry skin get blemishes too. Acne is an inflammatory dis-ease of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles of the skin that is marked by the eruption of pimples or pustules, which appears on the back, chest and especially on the face. 80% of boys and girls experience an increase in acne during their teens due to change in hormones. During puberty sticky cells in the hair follicle are unable to pass through the pores and remain under the skin, trapped inside and clogging the pores. This is how every blemish begins. Several thousand sticky cells clog up the pore, which is known as whitehead. A blackhead is formed when a lot of clogged, sticky cells are exposed to skin surface or oxygen. [30 Day Positive thought for the face (Acne): I love and accept myself where I am right now, I am wonderful.] Investment Bar "Every day we use products that we think are safe - we assume the product has been tested and any dangerous ingredients labeled. The truth is, products are not always safe and manufacturers don't have to tell us so. A GAO (Government Accounting Office) document says, "...a cosmetic manufacturer may use an ingredient or raw material and market the final product without government approval." In 1938, the FDA granted self-regulation to the cosmetics industry, allowing the industry to determine what they are putting in products, regardless of what tests may show. Most of the 25,000 chemicals used have not been tested for long-term toxic and systemic effects (affecting the entire body system). Many are outright toxins or contain toxic byproducts. According to Oregon Senator Roy Wyden, "Even if the FDA suspects that serious adverse health effects are caused by a cosmetic product, they can't require the manufacturer to provide test data to prove the product safety." During our daily personal care regimen, most of us have exposed ourselves to more than 200 different chemicals, and often the same dangerous chemical in multiple products. A recent surge of media attention reveals new concerns about detrimental ingredients that are affecting our physical health. An article in USA Weekend says: "The EPA is increasing research on dozens of synthetic chemicals (pesticides, plastics, and industrial pollutants) that may be juggling your hormone signals. After reviewing nearly 300 studies, the EPA concluded that ingredients in shampoos, dyes, and other everyday products maybe playing havoc with hormones that control reproduction and development". How about so-called “natural” products? Since there are no regulations about what is “natural”, the term is often abused and many such alternatives have the same dangerous ingredients as the products they claim to replace. Consumers must become educated and be aware. Of the hundreds of toxic chemicals used in personal and skin care products, we have chosen some of the “Worst Offenders”. If you learn about even these few and start reading ingredient labels, you can avoid some of the most serious carcinogenic and hormone-disrupting chemicals. TAKE ACTION NOW!! The health and well being of you and your family depends on it! How To Create An At Home Spa Start by washing your hair, using favorite shampoo. Fill the tub with comfortable water temperature, Epson salt, and add the additive of your choice – bath oil to soften the skin. While water running, towel dry hair and apply deep conditioner. Don’t rinse, cover head with plastic cap and wrap in a towel to let conditioner penetrate. Light aromatherapy and/or tea light candles. Ease into tub. Soak for a FULL five or ten minutes to release tension and worries. Use pumice stone to go over feet, heels, palms, and elbows to smooth away rough calluses. Lather a loofa sponge with moisturizing gel soap and gently stroke (upward motion) skin from toes to your shoulders, focus on rough areas of the body. Rinse off by letting water run down your body like a waterfall, step out of the tub and blot yourself dry with a towel. Slather yourself with a rich body lotion, maybe in your favorite fragrance, using a massage motion to work into the dry areas of your body. Wrap up in a robe. Terry cloth will create warmth. Now that your face is nicely stemmed from your bath, cleanse it well, massaging it lightly with your fingertips to smooth away muscle tension. Rinse, and exfoliate your face with a scrub to leave it glowing and extremely smooth. Now treat yourself to a mask, according to your skin type. Apply mask and while it works, lie down on your bed with feet up, eyes closed, muscles relaxed, mind serene- playing relaxing music in background. When ready, return to bathroom to rinse mask off with warm water, and rinse conditioner out of hair. Keep body dry so rinse hair in sink-first with warm water then cool. Towel dry and comb gently. Let it dry naturally, so you can give it a rest from the blow dryer. Finish your facial with toning, moisturizer and eye cream (if needed). Pat crème on lips as well, for an extra smooth touch. If you can keep the world away a little longer, curl up with a hot cup of herb tea and a great book, and enjoy. It’s always nice to do things at home; however at least once a month take some time to treat yourself to be enhanced by a professional. One area that comes to mind is our back. We clean our back daily, but not well enough to remove dead skin build up. This season treat yourself to a back exfoliation (scrub) which has a blend of essential oils, honey, and seaweed salt that purify the total body, eliminate marks over time and have you ready to bare a beautiful back on those hotter days on and off the beach.
